Project Overview
Estimated Value: £3.5M
Completed: December 2020
Summary
The project required the demolition of the former Edelweiss hotel in Colwyn Bay, making way for a new apartment building, encompassing 31 affordable homes, helping to bridge a clear housing gap in the local area.
Project Information
This new, high-quality development includes 14 one-bedroom and 17 two-bedroom apartments for families and individuals. The project was successfully delivered during COVID-19 restrictions, ensuring tenants were able to move in to their new homes in time for Christmas!
ClwydAlyn acquired the site several years prior and appointed Anwyl Partnerships as its preferred construction partner. The carefully designed development sits on a half-acre site, replacing what was once a derelict hotel that was subject to vandalism and anti-social behaviour for many years following its closure in 2009.
Throughout the construction programme, we worked closely with ClwydAlyn to ensure that the work we carried out had a lasting and positive impact on the local community. This meant the creation of new jobs and training opportunities, as well as a boost to the local economy through the use of a locally sourced supply chain.

This is an exciting development in the town that demonstrates our on-going commitment towards the regeneration of Colwyn Bay, as well as Conwy county and the surrounding area. The development also helps address the shortage of quality affordable housing in Conwy, and we’re delighted to see construction now complete with the support of Conwy Council and the Welsh Government.
– Craig Sparrow, ClwydAlyn’s Executive Director of Development
