Anwyl Construction’s Hafan Cefni Development has been awarded ‘Supported/sheltered housing scheme of the year’ in partnership with ClwydAlyn, The Isle of Anglesey County Council, Welsh Government and Curtins Engineering.

Hafan Cefni Extra Care is situated on the former Pen Y Bon school site in Llangefni, on the Isle of Anglesey. It caters for persons over the age of 60 with a range of care requirements, from minor care necessities, those living with memory loss. September 2018 saw the project complete and the first residents moved in the following month.

The development excelled in the Supported/sheltered housing scheme of the year category in the Northern Housing Awards due to its innovative features and inclusive community environment. The care features within the building are bespoke to each individual’s needs, with the addition of 15 specifically adapted apartments to for people living with Dementia. The development also houses an outdoor walking ‘Dementia Loop’ to which residents living within the special apartments have access to enjoy walking in the gardens safely with their friends and families. The building itself has been built with feature internal curved walls and corridors to give the illusion of continuity, which enables elderly people who may be experiencing memory loss to navigate the building with greater confidence.

We’re really proud to have won this prestigious award with our partners, it is a real tribute to all involved, especially our contractors Anwyl, who have helped to create such a superb scheme.”

Craig Sparrow, Executive Director of Development for Clwyd Alyn

The glittering award ceremony took place at the Emirates Old Trafford Ground in Manchester, guest speaker Fiona MacGregor, Chief Executive of the standalone Regulator of Social Housing opened proceedings with an engaging welcome speech. The event was a great celebration of all Social Housing organisations, bringing different teams together to celebrate each others successes over the year.

The award is a real testimony to our Hafan Cefni site team and our partnership with ClwydAlyn. We’re extremely proud of this development which has created a new, vibrant and safe development in a formally redundant area of Llangefni, and we’re pleased this has been recognised by the prestigious Northern Housing Awards and its judges.
