Anwyl Construction has been revealed as the winner of the Best Inclusive Building at the all-Wales Local Authority Building Control (LABC) awards.
The Flintshire-based business scooped the award for its pioneering work at the Llys Raddington Extra Care development in Flint for social housing provider, ClwydAlyn, under the ‘Best Inclusive Building’ category.
The scheme had formerly been announced as the winner in the North Wales finals and has now taken the top spot within the whole of Wales. Anwyl will now proceed to the national LABC finals which are being held in London this November.

‘Llys Raddington was developed in partnership with ClwydAlyn, Flintshire County Council and Welsh Government to create quality, comfortable and suitable homes for older people who’s needs my change through time, as well as those affected by dementia. We utilised a range of innovative technologies and applied a detailed design approach as part of an ‘age in place’ ethos, whilst careful consideration was given during the development of the dementia care homes. We’re incredibly proud of our work and our business and appreciate this formal recognition by LABC.”
The Inclusive Building award focusses on schemes that have gone beyond minimum design standards to ensure that the highest standards of inclusive design have been achieved, avoiding segregation and barriers to access and inclusion.
The Llys Raddington project was built for ClwydAlyn in partnership with Flintshire County Council and Welsh Government. The building has regenerated a former 1960’s maisonette site which was no longer fit for purpose in Flint town centre, and now provides 73 apartments, with 15 specially adapted for people living with dementia.
The building provides a unique solution to independent living with access to 24-hour care, along with creating a sense of community for the residents through the addition of communal areas including; lounge area and social club, sun lounge room, external landscaped court yard and a bistro-style restaurant.
