Project Overview

Client: Wales & West Housing
Estimated Value: 8.5M
Completed: September 2021

Summary

The new development involved the creation of 56 apartments with supported living for those over 55 in Aberystwyth. Additional to the Extra Care, the project encompassed the construction of a new leaseholder apartment block containing seven apartments for general needs, operating independently of the extra care facility.

Project Information

The development is situated in a coastal location, positioned on a cliff face prone to encountering adverse weather. Timber frame construction was utilised to combat this and to accelerate the build programme. Prior to commencement of the new build, a site-wide reduced level dig back to the rock bed was completed, to level out the site’s footprint.

In addition to the apartments, the development also features a restaurant/bistro, pamper bathroom suite, guest bedrooms, television lounge, activity rooms, carers’ suites and a residents’ garden area.

The project will create a positive, lasting impact in the Aberystwyth. It’s already provided 15 local people with new employment opportunities and is set to provide further training and work placement opportunities now the building has been occupied by the client.
