Anwyl Partnerships has welcomed a visit from a group of Construction students from Coleg Menai Pencraig Campus, keen to enjoy a taste of real life on a construction site.

The group of 16 – 18 year olds spent the day at Anwyl’s Coleg Menai site in Anglesey, where Anwyl Partnership are building 60 homes for housing association, ClwydAlyn. The visit marks the first of its kind for the business since lockdown.

The site, formerly owned by the College, was home to Coleg Menai Pencraig Campus for many years, reinforcing the partnerships commitment to create training and learning opportunities for local students.

Joinery firm, McKenzie Joinery, based in Llandudno, and a key part of the firms supply chain, has taken on two full time apprentices from the college whilst one of the work experience students has since supported an Anwyl community project outside the site.

Contracts Manager Stephen Jones of Anwyl Partnerships commented:

“It’s great to be working in the community once again and creating tangible opportunities as well as sharing our insight and experiences.

“We will continue to work closely with Coleg Menai Pencraig Campus and ClwydAlyn, as well as the wider community, throughout the lifecycle of this project and beyond to create a positive lasting legacy.”

Executive Director at ClwydAlyn, Craig Sparrow said:

“An important part of ClwydAlyn’s commitment to building high quality affordable homes is to ensure that all partners involved in our schemes commit to giving back to the local communities in which we work in a wide range of ways, from creating local employment to supporting local initiatives. We are delighted that Anwyl Partnerships has opened the site’s doors for the construction students to showcase the ongoing work at the site and we wish all the young people the very best of luck in their studies.”

The Coleg Menai Pencraig Campus scheme is part of ClwydAlyn’s development programme to deliver 1,500 new homes in North Wales by 2025 through an investment of £250million, bringing the total number of homes ClwydAlyn owns and manages to over 7,500.
