Bespoke solutions

One example of a business that has benefited greatly from brand new premises is Halen Môn Anglesey Sea Salt. This company began as a small cottage industry, but its success led to a pressing need for new premises that would allow it to expand its operation significantly.

Anwyl Construction worked with Halen Môn to create a unique manufacturing facility and visitor centre on the banks of the Menai Strait. The building is a first for the UK, as it allows the company to combine the production of high quality sea salt – the product has even been supplied to the White House – with facilities that allow the public to view the rare production method.

The project won a Green Apple Award for the Built Environment and Architectural Heritage.

Building for future success

At the Village Bakery in Wrexham, we helped a long-standing family business to expand by constructing a new training and innovation academy. It was important that the building embraced the principles of ‘Plan A’, a sustainability commitment drawn up by Marks & Spencer, one of the Village Bakery’s major clients.

The innovative development includes lecture theatres, development labs, training suites and offices, along with a gym, restaurant and rooftop terrace. It also features the largest living wall of evergreen plants in Wales, helping to create a welcoming environment in which staff development can progress successfully.

Forming effective partnerships

The Cefndy Road commercial estate presented us with a quite different challenge, as the site was situated on a natural flood plain. This led to us working closely with Natural Resource Wales in order to create a flood mitigation plan, including the construction of a reed bed nearby to enhance the flood defences.

The project resulted in a number of new contemporary commercial units being made available to the local community, enabling enterprises to benefit from modern commercial space. As the site was located in a residential area, we worked closely with the local community to make sure that disruption was kept to a minimum, and we were proud to be commended by the community for our management of this project.

A home of our own

Two other major projects situated next door to each other illustrate our ability to create prestigious office developments and company headquarters. For example, our own Anwyl Group HQ in Ewloe, Flintshire has allowed us to expand our business, giving us the space and facilities we need in order to accommodate Anwyl Homes and Anwyl Land in addition to our construction arm.

During the build, we needed to cope with the discovery of a mains gas pipe during the groundworks phase, working closely with Transco to ensure the issue was dealt with safely. We also worked with our local community to manage traffic and parking, and contributed to a project at nearby Hawarden School focused on greener ways of getting to and from work.

Flexible and sustainable

Adjacent to our own HQ, we constructed a new regional office for Wales and West Housing Association. We have worked with this company on a number of social housing projects, and are proud to have built an innovative and sustainable home for their contact and maintenance teams, along with their housing department.

As with our own head office, we worked closely with the community to keep them up to date with progress, and included a number of advanced sustainability solutions in the build. For example, the roof features an array of solar panels, while the hi-tech heating system uses ground source heat pumps a sophisticated building management system to regulate heat efficiently and cost-effectively.
